Summer Reading Events 2023
It’s here! Our schedule for summer reading activities is available. We begin on Wednesday, May 31 with our kick off. We will have door prizes, treats and lots of information about our events.

May 31-July 15: Touch the Moon Photo Contest. We have full moons on June 3 and July 3. Create a photo using the moon. Take a bite from the moon, touch the moon, or celebrate the moon. It’s your choice. All photos must be turned in by July 15. We will display them in the library. Come in for examples and ideas. All ages
May 31, Wednesday, 11:30am: Preschool Storytime.
May 31, Wednesday, 3pm: Summer Reading Kick-Off. Learn about the program and activities we will offer this summer. Door prizes. All ages.
June 2, Friday, 3pm: Beaded Bubble Wands. Create a bubble wand and make lots of bubbles. All Ages.
June 3, Saturday, 6:30pm: Movies Downtown. Due to anticipated road construction, we have moved the movies this summer indoors. Join us for a favorite family movie. Refreshments will be available. All ages.
June 5, Monday, 3pm: Bingo in the Books. We are playing bingo in the library. Prizes, prizes, prizes! All ages.
June 7, Wednesday, 11:30am: Preschool Storytime.
June 7, Wednesday, 3pm: Throwies. These simple circuits, originally urban art, are great to decorate a bedroom or outdoor space. We will use button batteries with this activity, which can be harmful for small children if swallowed, so please keep this in mind. Younger participants will need assistance.
June 9, Friday, 3pm: Stuck! Refrigerator magnets and bulletin board tacks. Yes, we are getting out some glitter! The magnets are great for lockers.
June 12, Monday, 3pm: Bookmarks. We will have supplies for leather, ribbon, charms and much more, along with some examples. They are great for gifts or your own use. All ages, but younger participants will need assistance.
June 14, Wednesday, 11:30am: Preschool Storytime.
June 14, Wednesday, 3pm: Chocolate and Best Brownie Judging. We will have many different types of brownies to judge, some boxed and some from scratch. Help us pick the best brownie ever in McLouth, KS. We will have recipes for scratch brownies and learn about different chocolates. Get ready to taste! All ages.
June 16, Friday, 3pm: Things That Fly. Paper planes, bows and arrows, catapults and more. When we are done, we will see which goes the greatest distance. Younger participants will need assistance.
June 19, Monday, 3pm: Bitty Bots. This tiny bot has one job to do. It wiggles around. Join us for this activity as we make them our own. Button batteries will be used for this activity, which can be harmful for small children if swallowed, so please plan accordingly. Younger participants will need assistance.
June 21, Wednesday, 11:30am: Preschool Storytime.
June 21, Wednesday, 3pm: Yahtzee. For beginners and experts, but played like you have never seen before. Prizes. Younger participants will need assistance.
June 23, Friday, 3pm: Cake Pops. These confectionary creations are great to eat or give as gifts. Pick your favorite. If you need a gluten free option, please contact the library in advance. Younger participants will need assistance.
June 24, Saturday, 6:30pm: Movies Downtown. Due to anticipated road construction, we have moved the movies this summer indoors. Join us for a favorite family movie. Refreshments will be available. All ages.
June 26, Monday, 3pm: Ping Pong Ball Nightlights. These illuminated nightlights will brighten your room. All ages.
June 28, Wednesday, 11:30am: Preschool Storytime.
June 28, Wednesday, 3pm: Bingo in the Books. A return of a favorite. Prizes. All ages.
June 30, Friday, 3pm: Boho Tassels. Decorate your room, backpack or purse with these textile creations. They are great for gift giving. Younger participants may need assistance. Younger participants may need assistance.
July 3, Monday, 3pm: Greeting Cards. Wish someone a Happy Birthday or thank them for a kind act. We will have a lot of supplies and ideas to put together your own cards to give throughout the year. Our younger participants will need assistance with this project.
July 5, Wednesday, 11:30am: Preschool Storytime.
July 5, Wednesday, 3pm: Binary Code Bracelets. Use code for your initials to assemble this bracelet. Each one is unique. These will use small beads and jewelry tools, so it best suited for tweens and teens.
July 7, Friday, 3pm: Game Competitions. Race with or against your friends. Compete in several games and hone your skills at working together.
July 8, Saturday, 6:30pm: Movies Downtown. Due to anticipated road construction, we have moved the movies this summer indoors. Join us for a favorite family movie. Refreshments will be available. All ages.
July 10, Monday, 3pm: Friendship Rocks. We will paint colorful rocks to share with the community. All ages.
July 12, Wednesday, 11:30am: Preschool Storytime.
July 12, Wednesday, 3pm: Cupcake Decorating. Exercise your culinary skills with your own hand decorated cupcakes. All ages. If you need a gluten free option, please contact the library in advance.
July 14, Friday, 3pm: Incense Waterfalls. These relaxing waterfalls encourage relaxation. You’ll go home with a few extra backflow incense cones for your use. This activity is best suited for older tweens and teens.
July 17, Monday, 3pm: Yahtzee. We are doing it again. For beginners and experts, but played like you have never seen before. Prizes. Younger participants will need assistance.
July 19, Wednesday, 11:30am: Preschool Storytime.

July 21, Friday, 3pm: Drones. We will learn about drones and how they are used in our communities. We will have some drones on hand for this event. Best suited for older tweens and teens.
July 22, Saturday, 6:30pm: Movies Downtown. Due to anticipated road construction, we have moved the movies this summer indoors. Join us for a favorite family movie. Refreshments will be available. All ages.
July 24, Monday, 3pm: Jewelry Making. We provide ideas and you create. Best suited for older tweens and teens.
July 26, Wednesday, 11:30am: Preschool Storytime.
July 26, Wednesday, 3pm: Summer Reading Wrap Party. We will celebrate with ice cream and all the toppings. For participants who have completed the reading portion of our program, we will have the grand prize drawings before we end for the summer. That’s all folks!
